Farewell Reception For Our Parish Administrator – June 1

As many of you are aware, Helen Neuhaus will be with us through Friday, May 30.  She and her family now live in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and the commuting distance, along with her beautiful baby Leah growing so rapidly, have made it necessary for Helen to look for employment closer to home.  As we all are aware, Helen has been a wonderful Parish Administrator both personally and professionally.  We will miss her a great deal and appreciate all that she has done for us over these six and a half years.

We will be having a farewell reception for Helen and her family on Sunday, June 1 following our summer 9:30 a.m. Worship Service.  Please mark your calendars and join us to celebrate and give thanks for Helen’s ministry among us.  Earl+

Outreach Meeting - Thursday, June 5

The next Outreach meeting will be on Thursday, June 5th at 7 p.m. at the Parish House on the second floor. This will be the last Outreach meeting until Thursday, September 4th.  Anyone interested in our various Outreach projects and would like to participate is welcome to come and join us.  If you have any questions about the Outreach ministry, please call Jim Lambert at 410-795-8319 or e-mail at laaambertjt@yahoo.com.

Help Make A Difference!  Relay For Life – June 7 / 8

The American Cancer Society's Freedom Area's Relay for Life begins Saturday, June 7th at the Sykesville Fire Hall.  Relay is an overnight event that begins at 6:30 p.m. and finishes at 7 a.m. on Sunday.  Our team is called the St. Barnabas Stone Church Kickers and Friends … and we are looking for as many team members as possible. All you have to do is pay $10 to register (you get a T-shirt) and commit to walking for one hour, at any point (doesn't have to be the 2 a.m. shift!), and try to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  The walk is around the parking lot of the fire hall.  There is also a Kids Walk this year from 3-6:30 p.m. There will be games, a moon bounce, face painting, food, etc.  If you are inter-ested, contact Jim or Linda Dore at 410-781-7292 or madinash@comcast.net, or you can register on-line at http://events.cancer.org/rflfreedom to join our team, or to make a donation to our team. Thank you!

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR Course – June 7

Terri Lambert will be offering an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR Course on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Parish House.  The course will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a break from 12 noon to 12:40 during which lunch will be provided.  This course covers basic CPR for adults, children and infants.  Upon completion of the course, participants will receive an AHA Heartsaver card which will be good for two years.  This card will meet the CPR requirements for child care positions, CNA training and some office positions in the medical field.  It is also a comprehensive course for the lay person who wishes to have a better knowledge of lifesaving techniques.  This class will need to be limited to 18 participants, 14 years or older, due to the AHA guidelines and space.  The cost is $20 per person.  Please contact Terri Lambert at 410.795.8319 or e-mail laaambertjt@yahoo.com.

Father’s Day Flowers – June 15

Father’s Day is June 15th.  There will be a section in the bulletin that day where the names of fathers and/or special men will be printed.  Please pick up an envelope marked “Altar Guild” today from the back of the church.  On it write your name and the names of those you would like to honor, place donations to the Altar Guild in the envelope, and place it in the offering plate or send it to the office.  All names must be received by Monday, June 9th.  You can also call the office (410.795.0767) with names and place donations in the offering plate at church.  Please feel free to include a line of appreciation which will also be printed in the bulletin.  Be sure to mark all checks/donations to “Altar Guild”.

St. Barnabas Parish Workday – June 22

There will be a workday on Sunday, June 22nd, after the second service at 9:30 a.m.  The work will include mulching, edging, and other yard chores.  Please come prepared to get dirty!  If you have any questions, please contact Chris Gunther at 443-340-8159.

Collection For Our Troops

If you have a loved one or know of someone overseas in the Armed Forces and would like the Outreach ministry to ship care packages to them, we need their names and addresses, along with your names as an introduction.  Please call Jim Lambert at 410-795-8319 or e-mail laaambertjt@yahoo.com.

Thank You From SPC Daven Pantohan, Iraq

Thank you very much for the box of goodies you sent me.  No words can express how special it is to get anything from anyone back home.  Mail call is the best time for a soldier over here.  To get a package from family is great, but to get one from a complete stranger is something entirely different.  It is different because it reminds us that we have others besides our family who care about us over here.  When we see the top story in the news is about some celebrity or some kind of scandal or something like that and we see little to no stories of the results we make over here, it is sometimes easy to get the impression that people forget about us here.  Anyway, I greatly appreciate the package and be sure to thank your church and everyone there who prays for me back in Maryland.  Especially Kathy and Bob and my friend Tessa Barnett.  Thank you all very much.  Sincerely, SPC Daven Pantohan

Collection For Our Troops

The Outreach Commission is taking up a collection for Our Troops.  Some of the suggested items include paperback books, playing cards, magazines, crossword puzzle books, sunscreen, lip balm, socks, batteries, insect spray, beef jerky, oodles of noodles, chips, trail mix, nuts, hard candy, wet wipes and toiletry items (no aerosol items or chocolate).  Anything you can give will be much appreciated!  Please remember that they are always happy to receive cards and letters as well.

In addition to the items for our Troops, we are collecting small toys, such as beanie babies and colored pencils for the children of these torn countries.  Please leave your items in a bag marked "Troops" in one of the baskets at Church or in the bin at the Parish House.

Collection of Used Ink Cartridges, Cell Phones and Eyeglasses

The Outreach Commission is collecting used ink cartridges (we ship these to fund the Food for the Poor program), used eyeglasses (we give those to the Lion's Club to recycle for the people who cannot afford them) used cell phones with the ac and/or dc adapters (we give these to the Senior Center to be refurbished and set to 911)  These are given at no cost to the battered women and senior citizens in Carroll County (with the cell phones, please attach a note with your name and address in order to get a letter for tax purposes).  Please leave them in the baskets at the entrance of the Church or in a bin at the Parish House.  This is an ongoing project that we collect for throughout the year.
